THE TRAVEL LOG || "God's Guided Appointment" || Sept 2022

Enjoy the real life, day-to-day travels in the life of Equip Evangelist, Rev. Ruth Strait

TRAVEL LOG || Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It was time for me to get my yearly renewal for my contacts prescription so I decided that after my walk in a neighboring town, I would call my eye doctor to make an appointment to come in, get my eyes checked and get my contacts. I went about my day, took my walk saying hello to those who passed by then sat down to rest before making that much needed phone call. I had a thought and felt prompted to go and see my doctor personally at this big box store. So… instead of calling, I drove clear across town to my eye doctor.

I get to the store, and it was busy with other patients, so I waited patiently for my turn to make an appointment to see him. While waiting, I walked over to the eye glass frames side of the store. I was looking around when one of the specialists that worked there, Marilyn, and I started talking. You know, small chat, ice breaker questions, “Where are you from? How long have you been here? Why did you choose this profession?” and so on. A few moments later, we had to pause our conversation because one of the other employees, Carla, came over to ask Marilyn a question. That’s when she noticed my t-shirt had Philippians 4:13 written on it. Carla promptly said, "I stand on that verse all the time. It has helped me get through the trials in my life." She then proceeded to tell me that the specialist standing next to me, Marilyn, was a medical student and was taking her ophthalmology doctor’s exam soon. Carla asked if I would lay hands in agreement in prayer for Marilyn, and I told her that I would love to! Well, here we were, the 3 of us, standing in the middle of the eye center with many people walking by, praying, (loudly and quite boldly at that too). We finished up, paying no mind to the many folks that were now standing and watching close by. We chatted for a little bit longer and the next thing I know, all three of us, me, Carla and Marilyn, were singing out and praising God even more flamboyantly in the eye center. I truly felt that all three of us knew that this was a Divine appointment. God was shown in a big way to the folks who were witness to this interaction of prayer and praise.

Just imagine if I might have ignored the unction to get up and go versus placing a phone call. I would not have been a part of praying in agreement over this young doctor to be. Also, I would not have been able to show those who were watching that we can be bold and pray publicly with no shame of Jesus Christ no matter where we are. When you feel that Holy Spirit prompting, get up and go! Do something, and do it boldly! Being obedient to God does indeed bring blessings!

This monthly Equip blog is provided by Rev. Ruth Strait and she is called to be God’s witness and Evangelist. It is her dedicated service to God to spread His Good News to any and all who will listen.

Let us pray…
