Worship NOW! | God-I'm Grateful for You.

Who am I that you keep me on your mind? God, I’m just grateful for you.  Psalm 118:1: “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”

I was thinking this week that since God has a plan and is in control of EVERYTHING, there must be a reason he chose to have me live in 2026. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining at all. Honestly, I don’t see myself faring well in a time without electricity, running water, TV/computer, a car, and a Super StopNShop near me. I get silly just thinking of myself trying to survive in another time without these niceties! Ok, I’m soft. But I think I’m in good company here, right?

Still, why here, why now? Here is our reality in 2026: We are disciples at a time when Christianity is the choice of only 31% of the world’s population. There are 4,200 distinct religions available. God chose for us to know him and be here at this time with all its many advancements. He knew what the culture, technology, and social media would be like. He knew some would be consumed by it all, and some would use it responsibly. I like to think I am in the latter group, well, most of the time when I can get it work! I’m not tech-savvy and can be easily frustrated when there is a glitch and decide to never use it again. But I see now that to reject what he has provided for me in 2026 is a form of rebellion. My refusing to be discerning in using them or to wrestle with learning more about our modern-day tools, subtly implies that I believe God got it wrong when he placed me in 2026 and not in a simpler, less techy, (and dare I say holy) time. I see the allure of wanting those historical days. It seems it would take less effort to live then than  than I must make now to discern and learn these new ways. And let’s be honest, also less effort to fight the effects of the evil side of it all. I clearly see I want the bennies of 2026, without the efforts needed for holiness in 2026. Or, here's a thought…..I could trust him and his plan, and could as the phrase goes, “Bloom where you are planted!”

God is giving me discernment and wisdom on when to use filters, when to screen out the evil or timewaster stuff, and to be quicker to hit the off button on the remote and hit the delete option. The enemy uses these venues oh so well to try and tempt us, slime us, or destroy faith, but God is not afraid of that, nor should we be. Turn it off, click delete, don’t fall for the enemy's tactics. God also uses these venues even better for his purposes and glory and is raising up Christians who have and will continue to develop webs, programs, entertainment that glorify him. He can use it then not only for the world, but for us as another avenue to teach and speak to us. Who hasn’t seen or heard something on social media at just the right time that impacts you, builds you up, reminds you of certain truths that you needed to hear so right then so you could combat the thoughts and emotions you were fighting that very moment. Only God can read your mind and heart and while his Word is still the most impactful tool, I’ve seen him use all of these venues to speak a word to me in the very moment of battle, showing me over and over he knows, he is here, he is my Lord and Savior.

So, I’m up for the challenge of using it all for good. We certainly have the most important message the world will ever need: Jesus, God in the flesh, came, lived, was crucified, died, was buried, and rose from the dead defeating death and making those who believe in him sons and daughters of God. You want to live forever? That line is the key. With technology today, how fast, compared to any age in history, can that message be spread now? What if it went viral? What if even those who reject it couldn’t stop thinking about it or see it keep popping up on their feeds? We don’t have to convince or convict people, that’s the job of the Holy Spirit, we just must speak the message out, so people hear it.

This week’s music playlist came together in just this way. An earworm line from one song kept popping up on my feeds - over 100 times! “Who am I that you keep me on your mind? God, I’m just grateful for you.”  I’d never heard the song, didn’t know any of the other lyrics, but that one line was like a computer virus in my mind. And just when it seemed to calm down, another video of it would pop up and it would start all over. It could have been maddening. Instead, it was wonderful to have this thought consuming my brainwaves and thoughts all week. It never would have happened without Facebook, TicToc, and YouTube. Can they have some incredibly evil content, yep, no argument there. But it also has messages that impact lives just like this one did for me this week – and hopefully now you!
